That was actually my first thought: EUROPE =/= MIDDLE EAST and AFRICA.
Seing as no one was questioning MS's statement, I even started to doubt my own knowledge in geography. Heck, maybe I've been living in Africa all these years and I didn't even know it!

With the PS3 unable to upscale efficiently, the system is known for the one resolution or else. Either 720p or NO HD.
The 360 can upscale and you know what, it looks freaking amazing.
Being a hardcore, HD graphics hound, I want my 1080p. The PS3 simply doesn't cut it.

Now that you mention it, the "budget version with added content" is a growing trend that I can't say I agree with. If you buy the game on release you have to pay full price and you'll have the "privilege" of paying extra for any DLC that gets released. But if you buy the game 6/8 months after the release you get more content for half the price. That is simply no way to reward early adopters. Yeah I'm sure the xbox crowd would know best how to correctly appreciate this game. No doubt they would appreciate it in between matches of Halo 3 and GeoW 2.

The funny thing is that the game already has its own trophy system in the form of medals. They really need to include official trophy support for this one.
Sadly I don't think that even a budget re-release will turn this game into a sleeper hit. But hey... If the game doesn't get a western budget release, that means that in a few years my copy will be worth a lot more.
People these days have very short attention and memory spans. That's the only explanation for considering the 360 "arguably the best console ever released".
Personally I would consider the NES or the PS2 as the best console ever released. But even those choices are highly arguable.
The Neo-Geo was very successful in arcades worldwide and enjoyed moderate success (with a considerable life span to match) in the Japanese console market. It's pure heaven for fans of 2D fighters and scrolling shooters, with games like Metal Slug and King of Fighters.

The way I see it, there are two possible solutions for your problem:
#1- Get a 26 inch HDTV. Those are getting dirt cheap these days.
#2- Cross your fingers and hope that Sony releases a FW update that supports more screen resolutions (maybe you could e-mail them about it).

I don't think you've read my post thoroughly. I was merely quoting another user's ridiculous claims (1.8) that the PS3 can only output in 720p, which is simply not true. In fact I also have my PS3 hooked up to a 1080p set and I just played COD4 in upscaled 1080p two hours ago. This just goes to show that A LOT of the negative info that's been circulating about the PS3 is an outright fabrication by people who don't even own the system.
